2025 NIPOGA Games: 53 Polytechnics, 4,000 Athletes Set to Storm Offa for Sports and Unity

All roads lead to Offa this April as the historic town prepares to host the 2025 Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA), featuring over 4,000 student-athletes from 53 polytechnics across the country.
Oluwakemi Ogungbamigbe, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, confirmed in a press release on Thursday that the 8-day sporting event will run from April 5 to April 12. The games will combine athletic competition with cultural celebration and economic activity, offering something for everyone—from athletes to spectators.
This year’s edition promises exciting contests in athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, chess, scrabble, handball, badminton, judo, and taekwondo.
According to Abubakar Abdullahi, Secretary General of the Nigeria Polytechnics Games Association (NIPOGA), contingents from states like Delta, Taraba, Bauchi, Rivers, Osun, and Ekiti have already started arriving, with more expected in the coming days.
At an earlier press briefing, the Rector of the host institution, Dr. Kadiri Kamoru, emphasized that NIPOGA 2025 is about more than just medals.
“This edition of NIPOGA is designed to promote national unity, build lifelong friendships, and discover fresh talent that can represent Nigeria on international stages,” he stated.
The theme of this 22nd edition is ‘Ijakadi 2024’, named after the traditional Ijakadi wrestling festival celebrated in Offa. The theme symbolizes equality, unity, and justice—values that NIPOGA hopes to instill in every participant.
With the stage set and the athletes arriving, Offa is ready to deliver a memorable tournament that blends sporting excellence with the cultural heartbeat of Nigeria.
