Galatasaray React to Jose Mourinho’s Physical Clash With Coach Okan Buruk

Galatasaray have broken their silence following a heated altercation involving legendary coach Jose Mourinho and their own manager, Okan Buruk, during a fiery Turkish Cup quarter-final clash on Wednesday night, April 2.
The tension unfolded at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium, where Mourinho—currently managing Fenerbahçe—appeared to physically confront Buruk on the touchline. The Portuguese tactician made contact that caused the Galatasaray coach to fall to the ground, sparking immediate reactions from fans and pundits alike.
Despite the drama, Galatasaray went on to seal a hard-fought 2-1 win, thanks to a brace from Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, while Sebastian Szymanski pulled one back for the home side.
Speaking after the match, Galatasaray vice-president Metin Ozturk didn’t mince words about Mourinho’s behavior.
“Mourinho’s actions crossed the line—first with words, then with physical contact. This kind of conduct has no place in professional football and shows a lack of respect for Turkish football culture. I expect Fenerbahçe’s leadership to handle the situation accordingly,” Ozturk said.
Meanwhile, Okan Buruk played down the incident but did share his disappointment.
“He pinched my nose from behind. It was unexpected and definitely not the most respectful way to express himself,” Buruk explained. “We’ve had no previous issues, and I don’t plan to escalate this. Still, as managers, we must set better examples and promote sportsmanship.”
The Turkish football community is now awaiting an official response from Fenerbahçe, with fans across the world watching closely to see if Mourinho will face any consequences for his actions.
