Super Falcons Not Flattered By Win Over Tunisia – Coach Madugu

The Super Falcons of Nigeria head coach, Justine Madugu, has stressed that he and his team are not carried away by their opening win at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco.
Recall that on Sunday, Coach Madugu led the Super Falcons to beat Tunisia 3-0, thereby establishing themselves as Group B toppers in the competition.
First-half goals from Asisat Oshoala and Rinsola Babajide set the tone for Nigeria’s victory before Chinwendu Ihezuo sealed the win for the team in the second half.
The Super Falcons are expected to do more when they face Botswana on Thursday, July 10. Botswana lost their opening game 1-0 against Algeria.
Ahead of their next group game, coach Madugu, who is leading the Super Falcons to chase a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, stressed that he expects his team to get better in subsequent matches.
“We are not flattered by the score line. We know what we set out to do. We have watched the game. We have noticed areas that we also know we need to improve. So it’s still a work in progress. Like I said, it’s the first match,” the coach said during his post-match reaction.
“Naturally, playing the first game, sometimes a lot of factors come into play. You don’t expect your team to be at their best playing from the first game, certainly because you still have more games to play. The expectation is that you hope to get better in every game up to the finals.”
On his team selection, Madugu added, “Every player that is here representing the country, that has made the team, is equally of great importance. For us, they are all players and we try as much as possible to promote team harmony and make everybody feel relevant in the team, and nobody feels more important than the other.
“Everybody has an equal chance of being in the team. So whoever does well continues, whoever does not do well, obviously, because we want to do better, we have the privilege of making those changes so that we get the team going.”
