Manchester City kicked off their Premier League campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing Wolves 4-0 at Molineux with Tijjani Reijnders, Erling Haaland, and Rayan Cherki all on the scoresheet.
New signing Reijnders, a £46.3m arrival from AC Milan, dazzled on his debut. The Dutch midfielder set up the opener with a sublime lofted pass to Rico Lewis, who teed up Haaland for a simple finish in the 34th minute. Moments later, Reijnders doubled City’s lead with a stunning first-time strike into the far corner.
Haaland grabbed his second early in the second half, finishing coolly from another Reijnders assist to put Pep Guardiola’s men firmly in control.
Cherki, City’s £34m signing from Lyon, added further gloss with a brilliant low strike from the edge of the box late on, sealing a statement victory and sending out a warning to rivals that City are firmly back in the title race after last season’s disappointment.
For Wolves, the night brought more concern than encouragement. Marshall Munetsi had a header ruled out for offside when the game was goalless, while Jorgen Strand Larsen went close in the second half. But without Matheus Cunha, sold to Manchester United, the hosts lacked attacking bite and were ruthlessly exposed at the back.
