NFF Investigating Circumstances Surrounding Abubakar Lawal’s Tragic Death
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reaffirmed its commitment to uncovering the full details surrounding the untimely demise of former Flying Eagles player, Abubakar Lawal.
Lawal, who was playing for Ugandan club Vipers SC, tragically passed away on Monday morning under disturbing and conflicting circumstances. Initially, reports suggested that he had suffered fatal injuries in a motorbike accident, while later claims indicated he was involved in a car crash. However, new developments have cast further doubt on these early accounts.
According to a statement from the Ugandan Police, Lawal allegedly fell from the third floor of a hotel located within the Voicemail Shopping Mall in Bwebajja. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly visiting Naima Omary, a Tanzanian woman who had been staying at the hotel for about a month. The exact sequence of events leading to his fall remains unclear, raising urgent concerns and prompting deeper investigations.
NFF’s Determination to Uncover the Truth
NFF Secretary General, Mohammed Sanusi, has assured that the federation is fully committed to assisting in the investigation.
“We are not relenting in the search for truth. The Federal Government of Nigeria has shown strong determination to uncover what really happened, and we have also engaged with our counterparts at the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to assist us in gathering all necessary details,” Sanusi stated.
He further emphasized the NFF’s dedication to cooperating with all authorities involved in the inquiry and supporting efforts to provide clarity and justice regarding Lawal’s tragic passing.

Abubakar Lawal was a key member of the Flying Eagles squad that represented Nigeria at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
