Jordan Henderson Departs Ajax After Mutual Contract Termination

England international, Jordan Henderson has parted ways with Ajax after the club agreed to terminate his contract a year ahead of schedule.
Jordan Henderson, 35, who arrived at Ajax in January 2024, was initially signed through to June 2026. However, the two parties have mutually decided to cut ties, allowing the former Liverpool captain to explore new opportunities.
Henderson is reportedly attracting interest from clubs in England and across mainland Europe.
Henderson made over 50 appearances for Ajax and captained the team during his time in Amsterdam. His final campaign saw Ajax narrowly miss out on the Eredivisie title, with PSV Eindhoven clinching it on the last day of the season.
“I would like to express my immense gratitude to everyone associated with Ajax. To play for this club was an honour in itself,” Henderson said in a statement.
“To have the privilege of captaining it was even more so. My only regret is that we didn’t deliver more success for the amazing supporters.”
Henderson’s exit comes amid personal grief. He recently returned to Merseyside following the death of his former teammate Diogo Jota and Jota’s brother, Andre Silva, in a car crash.
“Due to the tragic events of last week, and the devastating loss of my former team-mate Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, it doesn’t feel right at this moment to say or do more than share this brief statement,” Henderson added.
“I am fully aware that I owe [Ajax], my teammates, and the supporters a fuller and more personal thank you. I will, of course, do that when the time feels more appropriate.”
Henderson remains a revered figure in English football. During his 12-year spell at Liverpool, he lifted every major club trophy available, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Club World Cup.
His move to Ajax followed a short and turbulent stint with Saudi club Al-Ettifaq, where he lasted less than six months before returning to Europe.
