Diogo Jota: ‘You Left Us In Your Prime’ – Sadio Mane Mourns Ex-teammate

A former Liverpool star, Sadio Mane, has joined the host of others in grieving the demise of his ex-teammate, Diogo Jota, who tragically died last week in a road accident alongside his brother, André Silva.
Naija News reports that the tragic incident, which occurred in Spain, has attracted attention across the global football community, with fans, players, and clubs expressing their shock over the sudden loss of the 27-year-old Portuguese forward and his sibling.
Reacting to the news via social media on Monday, Mane described Diogo Jota’s death as a devastating blow to those who shared memories and moments with him, especially at Liverpool Football Club, where they played together between 2020 and 2022.
“Your passing leaves a void because you left us in the prime of your life. It hurts deeply, and shock is the most shared emotion among those of us who spent years with you at Liverpool,” the Senegalese professional footballer wrote.
Mane ended the message with a simple but emotional farewell: “Forever in our hearts.”
Diogo Jota’s Memories
Naija News reports that Jota, who joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in September 2020, quickly established himself as a fan favourite due to his versatility, work rate, and knack for scoring in crucial moments.
Jota scored a number of important goals in his more than 100 appearances for the Reds, including in Premier League and Champions League games.
He had a successful stint with Wolves before joining Anfield.
Jota started his professional career in Portugal with F.C. Paços de Ferreira, then went on loan to Atlético Madrid and FC Porto before making his Premier League debut.
Liverpool FC, in an official statement, described Jota as “a beloved member of the Liverpool family whose energy, passion, and humility touched everyone at the club.”
Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea, as well as UEFA and FIFA, have all sent their condolences.
A moment of silence was observed during weekend fixtures across European leagues in honour of Jota and his brother.
