CHAN 2024: Appiah Aims To Shine Against Nigeria, Diallo Praises Senegal’s Win Over Eagles

Sudan head coach, Kwesi Appiah, has expressed confidence ahead of his team’s next Group D match against Nigeria at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Sudan was held to a 1-1 draw by Congo Brazzaville in their opening CHAN match on Tuesday, conceding a late equaliser after leading for most of the game.
Speaking after the match, Appiah said he was optimistic about his team’s chances against Nigeria, noting that the week-long break before the next fixture would be used to make necessary adjustments.
“We have a week to prepare. That gives me a chance to adjust the team and improve things. We’ll work on our weaknesses and come back stronger against Nigeria,” Appiah said.
The Ghanaian coach has been dealing with injuries to key players and has also expressed concerns over his team’s inadequate preparation for the tournament.
Sudan will face Nigeria in seven days in a crucial encounter for both teams.
Meanwhile, Senegal head coach Souleymane Diallo has commended his players following their 1-0 win over Nigeria in their Group D opener.
Christian Gomis scored the only goal of the match in the 75th minute at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar on Tuesday night.
Despite Nigeria dominating possession, Senegal’s pressing and defensive organisation proved decisive.
“It was team solidarity,” Diallo told CAF’s official website. “We played like a team—high press, counter-press, compact blocks. The players showed character and intelligence.”
Senegal now tops the group, while Nigeria and Sudan are under pressure to secure positive results in their next fixtures.
