Vinicius Jr. Commits Future to Real Madrid Amid Saudi Interest, Speaks on UCL Refereeing & Ballon d’Or Snub

Brazilian superstar Vinicius Junior has made it clear that he wants to extend his stay at Real Madrid “as soon as possible,” despite heavy interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. The 24-year-old winger, whose current contract runs until 2027, is already in early talks with Los Blancos over a new deal following a meeting with club officials last month.
Vinicius, who is preparing for Real Madrid’s Champions League last-16 clash against city rivals Atlético Madrid on Tuesday, addressed his future during Monday’s pre-match press conference.
“I’m very calm because I have a contract until 2027, and hopefully, we can renew as soon as possible,” he said. “I’m happy here—playing with the best players, under the best coach [Carlo Ancelotti], and with the best president [Florentino Pérez]. The support I’ve received is incredible, and I can’t imagine myself in a better place.”
A Madrid Legend in the Making
Since joining Real Madrid in 2018, Vinicius has blossomed into one of the world’s most electrifying forwards. He played a decisive role in their 2022 and 2024 Champions League triumphs, scoring crucial goals in both finals. His stellar performances also earned him the FIFA Best Men’s Player award in 2023, solidifying his status among football’s elite.
When asked if he could “guarantee” a contract renewal, Vinicius remained focused on his long-term ambitions at the Bernabéu.
“I came here to make history,” he declared. “This club has given me everything, and I want to keep scoring goals, winning matches, and lifting trophies in this jersey. As a kid, my dream was to play for Real Madrid. Now, I have the chance to leave my mark alongside the legends who defined this club.”
Vinicius Slams La Liga Referees, Praises UCL Officiating
The Brazilian also took the opportunity to voice his frustrations with refereeing inconsistencies in La Liga compared to the Champions League. Real Madrid has repeatedly criticized Spanish officials this season, and Vinicius believes European referees offer better protection for creative players.
“In Europe, referees protect players who bring entertainment and skill to the game,” he said. “They punish rough play, which allows football to flow. In Spain, it’s different—sometimes I get booked the first time I complain, while others escape punishment. I know I have my moments, but I’m improving. People forget I’m still only 24.”
Real Madrid’s Ballon d’Or Boycott Revealed
In a surprising revelation, Vinicius confirmed that Real Madrid instructed him to skip the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony after learning he would finish second behind Manchester City’s Rodri.
“I always follow the club’s decisions,” he explained. “When they asked me to stay in Madrid, I respected that.”
The decision highlights Madrid’s dissatisfaction with the voting process, especially after Vinicius’ standout season, which included a Champions League-winning campaign and multiple match-winning performances.
What’s Next for Vinicius?
With Saudi Pro League clubs reportedly ready to offer a mega-money deal, Vinicius’ commitment to Madrid is a major boost for the Spanish giants. As they prepare for a crucial UCL knockout tie against Atlético, his focus remains on adding more silverware to his already impressive collection.
Will he become a one-club legend at Real Madrid? For now, Vinicius is determined to keep writing his story at the Bernabéu.
