Osun Govt Cracks Down on Security: 100 Illegal Immigrants Arrested

100 illegal immigrants arrested in osun

In a decisive move to strengthen security in Osun State, no fewer than 100 illegal immigrants have been arrested as the state government tightens its grip on law enforcement. This comes in the wake of the recent arrest of suspected ISWAP members in Ilesa and growing concerns over bandits infiltrating forests across the South-West region.

According to reports, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) carried out the arrests, detaining foreigners who entered the state in groups without valid travel documents or any clear reason for their presence.

Security Concerns in Osun

A reliable security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the arrests but refrained from disclosing the exact location, citing security reasons.

“The Osun State government was promptly informed, and they provided NIS buses to transport the arrested individuals,” the source revealed.

Efforts to reach the Osun State Command spokesperson for NIS, Olu Moyosade, for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages went unanswered.

Osun Govt Assures Residents of Safety

Speaking on the development, Kolapo Alimi, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, reassured residents that the state government is fully in control of the security situation.

“These 100 illegal immigrants were arrested weeks before the ISWAP suspects in Ilesa. There is no cause for panic; we are proactively tackling security threats in Osun. Our Amotekun security outfit is being strengthened to be more effective in protecting the state,” he stated.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, alongside security agencies and service chiefs, remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.

Regional Security Measures

Alimi also commended Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for raising the alarm over bandits infiltrating South-West forests. The Osun government continues to collaborate with regional security agencies to prevent any threats.

With heightened security measures now in place, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
