The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has allegedly destroyed 10 illegal oil refineries in the country and seized 42 oil tankers used for diverting petroleum products into the black market.
“On Friday, we destroyed three illegal refineries in Rivers state; within the week we destroyed five in Bayelsa and another two in Abia,’’ said NSCDC Commandant General, Abdulahi Gana.
Alhaji Gana made this known in Minna, Niger State, his hometown, yesterday Thursday. He said the operations were carried out between July and September this year.
Gana lamented the fact that the federal government is losing so much oil revenue to oil thieves than it is receiving to develop the nation. He pledged his agency will continue to protect the country’s critical installations and public infrastructures as well as other national assets from vandals.
In order to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration, the NSCDC Commandant General said about 40,000 corps officers were deployed to safeguard critical assets across the country from vandals.
While urging all Nigerians to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourboods to security agencies closest to them, Gana noted securing public property is everyone’s business and must not be left to government agencies alone.
